Three injured in tiger attack in West Bengal

By IANS,

Kolkata : Three people, including a girl and a forest official, were injured when a tiger sneaked into a West Bengal village near Sundarbans Sunday morning. The man-eater was later caged by the forest department officials.

The tiger entered Deulbari village near Kultali in South 24-Pargans district, about 110 km from here, and started attacking villagers in the wee hours Sunday. The first to be attacked was a 10-year-old girl.

“The team, led by district forest officer Subhendu Bandhopadhyay, reached the spot within one hour and successfully tranquilised the tiger. It will soon be released to the core forest area in Sundarbans,” West Bengal Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Atanu Raha said.

He said the villagers assisted the forest department officials to cage the tiger.

“We’re monitoring the health of the tiger and will provide it food once it wakes up,” he said.

The injured have been admitted to a Kolkata hospital.
