All Palestinian factions to meet in Ramallah tonight

RAMALLAH, Dec 29 (KUNA) — Representatives of all Palestinian factions, including the advesaries Fatah and Hamas, will hold a meeting at headquarters of the Palestinian authority here later tonight, a lawmaker announced.

Bassam Al-Salhi, a member of the legislative assembly, said in remarks to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the basic theme of the crucial meeting would be “halting the Israeli offensive on the strip and foiling all bids by some powers to take advantage of the inter-Palestinian division.” The legislator made the announcement a few hours after President Mahmoud Abbas declared that he was ready to meet his adversaries from Hamas to look into ways of ending the Israeli strikes on Gaza.
Abbas has long been at loggerheads with Hamas since the Islamic organization dislodged his followers, members of Fatah, from Gaza in a bitter warfare.
The meeting, if held, will be the first on record since the two mainstream organizations, fell apart on power sharing and policy issues.
