New Delhi : A promotional video shown on Finnish carrier Finnair flights has won the silver medal in the in-flight entertainment category of the New York Festivals film and video competition.
Titled “Welcome to Lakeland”, the video describes the nature of Finland’s lakes and the relationship between the Finnish people and the country’s waterways.
It also speaks of the asset that Finland’s lakes represent for the Finns themselves and for tourists.
The award is the 12th of its kind earned by Finnair for in-flight films. The same film has also earned recognition at a festival in Seoul.
The film was produced by Kalevi Lehtonen, directed by Seppo Saarinen and scripted by Maija Lehtonen of Suomen Visiotalo company.
New York Festivals is one of the most prestigious events of its kind in the world and has a 50-year history. A total of 212 programmes from 25 countries were entered in this year’s competition, including from Australia, Britain, Canada, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore and the US.
Finnair offers 12 flights a week between India and Finland, with seven from New Delhi to Helsinki and five from Mumbai to Helsinki. A sixth flight from Mumbai will start later this year.
Globally, the carrier’s traffic measured in passenger kilometres grew 16.2 percent in 2007, while the traffic from Asia – the bulk of it from India – was up 32.6 percent.
