Pakistani Minister: government determined to strengthen democratic process

Islamabad : Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Nisar A. Memon Friday said that the government is fully determined to strengthen the democratic process in the country.

He was talking to a 4-member delegation led by Deputy Speaker of Legislative Assembly of the Northern Areas Syed Asad that called on him here. The delegation also comprised Advisor for Tourism Abdul Hameed Advocate, Muhammad Aslam Advocate, and Ghulam Nabi. The delegation terming the development package announced by the President as historic said it would help bring the area at par with other developed areas of the country.

“Caretaker setup is making all out arrangements to ensure general elections in free, fair and transparent manner that would help further strengthen the democratic institutions in the country,” he said.

He assured the delegation that the government would help implement the package announced by President Pervez Musharraf to embark the Northern Areas on the path of progress and prosperity.

“Legislative powers given to the Northern Areas Assembly would help address problems confronting the local people,” he said.

The Minister said PTV Broadcasting Station in the Northern Areas would be inaugurated soon that would effectively disseminate the information about the development related activities in the area.

The delegation terming the development package announced by the President as historic said it would help bring the area at par with other developed areas of the country.
