Political Muscle-flexing Starts in Thailand

By Prensa Latina

Bangkok : Thailand s political stage shows already signs of struggle before the imminent government of Samak Sundarajev after two years of military rule.

The new Prime Minister, majority leader of the People s Popular Party (PPP), will face as of this week the challenge of a healthy economy in contrast with the winds of recession blowing in the United States.

The topic has number one priority in the national scene.

The rival in solitary Democrat Party (DP) pitched the first ball barely one day after the coalition cabinet was formed which the Prime Minister will submit to King Bhumibol Adulyade for his formal approval.

The outgoing military Junta and the monarchy have the support of the DP, who now declared it will support Samak in tetaking the popular policies of Taksin Shinawatra, head of the government toppled by the military in 2006.

On the other hand, Samak Sundarajev knows he does not have the support of his friend Shinawatra. Recent surveys give him a 44 percent support of the 65 million Thai citizens, the majority of which hope for substantial benefits.

Local academicians insist that Thailand can keep safe from tje current crisis in the United Status ande ven from a possible recession if the incoming Prime Minister respects the annual budget.
