Baghdad : The new Iraqi flag has been officially hoisted over the government building in Baghdad during a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki.
The government held a special ceremony Tuesday to hoist the new flag over governmental buildings in the capital and others all over the country. The Iraqi parliament approved the new flag with removal of the three stars in the middle section and the flag is to be used for one year.
The new flag will also be used in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, where officials previously refused to hoist the previous flag, under which crimes and brutalities were committed against Iraqi Kurds by the former regime.
