Madrid : The Spanish National Attorney General’s Office demanded testimony from people involved in the passage of secret US prisoner flights to Guantanamo base, revealed El Pais Newspaper on Monday.
Prosecutor Vicente Gonzalez Mota launched the demand that involves airport and plane officers as well as military and civil controllers of air bases in Moron de la Frontera (Sevilla), Rota (Cadiz) and Torrejon de Ardoz (Madrid).
Those facilities, among others, were indicated on several opportunities, as flight stop overs where the United States moved people to be imprisoned at Guatanamo’s military base.
The fiscal also demanded to make inquiries at the Defense and Foreign Affairs Ministries, Spanish Airports and airline (AENA), supplier of many terminals in this European country.
The existing denunciations noted that about 50 planes crossed through Spanish air space to or from Guantanamo between 2002 and 2007 and about 10 landed in Spanish airports.
From those flights 22 took place during previous government of Jose Maria Aznar and 25 during the current administration of Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
