Kasargod (Kerala) : Four youths were arrested in Kasargod district in north Kerala Wednesday for trying to create communal disturbance by tearing down a hoarding put up for a Hindu festival.
The four, who were arrested in Bekal, said they were members of Islamic Students’ Association (ISA), a group so far unknown in the state, the police said.
“We are probing whether the ISA is a frontal organisation for any other group,” said N.P. Balakrishnan, deputy superintendent of police of Kasargod, 650 km from state capital Thiruvananthapuram.
The arrested are Muhammed Asif K.T. (19), Abdul Basiph (24), Muhammed Rehman (19) and Althaf B.K. (19). All of them belong to Chemnad, a nearby area. Muhammed Asif is a final-year engineering student.
