New Delhi : Air India Friday launched its non-stop flight from New Delhi to New York that will cut down travel time between the two cities by at least three hours, company officials said.
Flight AI-101 left the Indira Gandhi International Airport for JFK Airport, New York, at 12.30 a.m.
Air India officials said while the onward journey would take 16 hours, it would take 18 hours on return.
The state-of-the-art Boeing 777-200LR aircraft will arrive in New York at 5.45 a.m. local time Friday.
The flight will depart from the JFK International Airport at 4.00 p.m. local time and arrive in New Delhi at 4.30 p.m. Saturday.
The new flight will be the second non-stop service to India from JFK International Airport. On Aug 1, 2007, Air India introduced its first daily, non-stop service from New York to Mumbai on a Boeing 777-200LR.
Air India will increase the New Delhi-New York frequency to 28 flights a week.
The aircraft is equipped with the latest in-flight features, including on-demand audio and video entertainment in each seat, the airline said.
In addition to its service from JFK International Airport, Air India offers direct services to India from New Jersey, Chicago and Los Angeles.
