Hyderabad : The father of a CRPF officer, who was shot dead by a constable in his office a week ago, has died here in a state of shock.
Nawab Syed Abdul Ali Khan, 80, died following a heart attack Thursday, exactly a week after his son Syed Sirajuddin Ali Khan, Additional Deputy Inspector General of CRPF, was shot dead by a constable for not sanctioning him leave.
Family sources said he had been in severe depression for the last one week since he heard about his son’s killing.
A pall of gloom descended on his house at Abids as the second death struck the family in a week.
Abdul Ali Khan, who had served as captain in Nizam’s army, was seen crying inconsolably during the burial of his son last week.
“My son was a very honest officer and won many rewards for the meritorious service and bravery. He had always served away from home and when he was transferred here two years ago we were all happy. But we did not know that such tragedy will strike the family,” he had said.
A native of Hyderabad, Abdul Ali Khan belonged to the Paigah family of Vicar-ul-Umra, who was the prime minister of erstwhile Hyderabad state in 1890s.
Sirajuddin Ali Khan was shot dead by constable T. Hanumantha Rao at CRPF group centre at Chandrayangutta Jan 31. Denial of leave and cooking gas connection were cited as the reason for the extreme action by the constable.
The constable also attempted to kill a deputy commandant before being overpowered by other officers.
