Warsaw : Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday to discuss crucial issues such as the US antimissile shield and regional energy security.
Tusk, who travels to Russia, at a time when bilateral relations are at their best, will have to clarify how his country plans to implement Washington’s program to deploy the antimissile defense system in the region.
The Kremlin has rejected the White House’s claiming an alleged threat by Iran or North Korea to deploy a battery of intercepting missiles on Polish territory and a radar station for the system in the Czech Republic.
Tusk’s stay in Moscow will follow Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski’s visit to the United States, where he asked for Washington’s contribution to the development of the local air force as a condition to deploy the antimissile shield.
Russian media reported that Tusk would also discuss the construction of the Amber alternative gas pipe, which would start in Russia, would cross Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia and Poland, and will end in Germany.
Tusk and Putin will also talk about Poland’s support for Ukraine’s joining European structures in detriment of relations with Russia.
