Beijing : Snow and sleet topped the list of ten words that were most frequently used in China in January, according to a new survey.
The survey released by Wenhui-Xinmin United Press Group Saturday showed the ten popular words such as yuxue (snow and sleet), snow havoc, snowstorm, the Water Cube, Jing-Zhu highway (the highway connecting Beijing and southern city of Zhuhai), Olympic year, icy rain, Wu Zhengyi, Min Enze and frozen disaster.
Among those words, six are related to the snow and rain havoc from which many parts of China have been suffering since mid-January. More predictably, in the 2008 Olympic year, the recently completed Olympic swimming stadium nicknamed Water Cube are also included in the list, followed by Wu Zhengyi and Min Enze, both winners of the 2007 State Supreme Science and Technology Award.
According to the press group, the top 10 most-used words are selected from major domestic newspapers and news websites. The result is based on accurate analysis of word frequency statistics.
Wenhui-Xinmin United Press Group has been releasing series of most frequently used words annually, seasonally or monthly since 2004.
