Moscow : Four people were killed in a fire at a building site in the eastern part of the city, an Emergency Situations Ministry spokesman said Monday.
The fire broke out on the 30th floor of a 36-storey building under construction at about 3 a.m. and covered an area of 70 square metres, the official said.
The dead are believed to be construction workers who were present at the site when the fire broke out.
Investigators are also attempting to establish the cause of the fire.
Incidents involving construction workers, often-illegal migrants from ex-Soviet republics, are frequent in the Russian capital, where the construction industry is booming.
Civil rights groups have highlighted the poor working conditions on many building sites in Moscow, where work often goes on throughout the night.
