Islamabad : Security forces have launched an operation to find a missing diplomat, feared to have been kidnapped by suspected militants near the Pakistan-Afghan border.
Police and security forces were jointly conducting a search operation in Khyber tribal agency and the adjoining northern areas, security officials told KUNA.
Tariq Aziz-u-Din, Pakistan’s ambassador to Afghanistan, went missing on Monday while on his way to Kabul along with his driver and two bodyguards. Officials in Islamabad have confirmed he was missing but avoided the word kidnap.
Since President Musharraf imposed a month long emergency in November last year, militants have been regularly kidnapping government officials and soldiers.
