Auckland : New Zealand bowling all rounder Andre Adams has become the latest Kiwi cricketer to sign with the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL), the media reported here Wednesday.
The news has come just days after New Zealand paceman Shane Bond announced that he is heading to India for ICL.
Playing possibly in his last of domestic cricket season, Adams said Wednesday that the deal with ICL would ensure his family’s future.
“I can’t talk figures but it’s a lot better than I’d be getting here. It’s a contract I couldn’t turn down, I’ll say that much and it certainly ensures the future for my family as well,” Adams was quoted as saying by a New Zealand news channel.
The move to India will reportedly see Adams get a massive pay rise worth around $400,000 a season for three years.
While Adams has given a stellar performance in the domestic competition, he has been unwanted by the Black Caps recently.
And his ICL contract has ruled out any chance of return.
New Zealand cricket is being pressured by the International Cricket Council (ICC) not to select players from the rebel competition and that could mean more problems in the future.
With fringe players now in the sights of the ICL, predictions are rife that young talented players like Jesse Ryder could be next.
“It is sort of his game. So I’d be guessing the like of him and Ross Taylor might be getting touched up, yeah, but I can see more guys going,” Adams says.
