Islamabad : Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Islamabad has started a phased training of 4000 policemen to reduce traffic incidents rate, according to an official statement.
The PIMS is imparting training on Emergency Life Support Skills in collaboration with the Motorway Police.
The training is designed to enhance the life-saving skills of the police officers, usually the first to respond to emergencies on the highways and motorway.
The PIMS is a tertiary care hospital providing state of art clinical services to the people all over Pakistan and along with our clinical services we also have a very strong human resource development programme, PIMS Executive Director Dr Majeed Rajput said on the occasion.
Of nine institutions under the umbrella of PIMS, 5 are dedicated to education and training. Advanced life support group of UK, child advocacy international and local partners have contributed to the development of this programme.
We have also included some generic programmes from our human relations training programme to supplement the technical life support skills activity, Rajput said.
The training will focus on first aid, preliminary triage, shifting of injured, and Emergency Life Support like cardio pulmonary resuscitation. The police officers will also undergo Human Relations Skills training, which includes empathy and teamwork skills.
In the first batch 30 police officers of the National Highways and Motorway Police will participate. The course has been designed using modern training methodologies like experiential learning and utilizes simulators, mannequins and scenarios with role-plays.
