Dalai Lama sends message to injured East Timor president

Dharamsala : Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama Thursday sent a letter to East Timor President Jose Ramos-Horta, who was injured in an assassination attempt Feb 11, expressing concern over the incident.

A spokesman for the Tibetan government-in-exile here quoted the Dalai Lama’s letter: “I am sorry to learn that you have been injured in attack. I hope you recover fully and swiftly.”

According to reports, Horta, who was shot by the rebels outside his Dili home, is undergoing medical treatment in a hospital in the Australian city of Darwin.

Horta, 58, won the Noble Peace Prize in 1996 for his struggle for East Timor’s independence from Indonesia.
