Mumbai : Engineering and construction company Larsen and Toubro Ltd (L&T) has secured a $78.8 million contract from Qatar General Electricity and Water Corp (Kahramaa), a government agency of the Middle East country for transmission and distribution of electricity.
Announcing this here Thursday, the L&T informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) that the project, a part of Kahramaa Phase VIII, envisages the designing, supplying, installing and commissioning of five 66/11 substations at Qatar.
The contract also encompasses the construction of substation buildings together with associated utilities.
All five substations are to be completed in a time frame of 27 months.
K.V. Rangaswami, president (construction) and member of board L&T, said the contract has enabled the company to enter power sector in Qatar.
“The order has been secured against stiff competitor from many international players in the field,” he added.
