Islamabad : The Olympic Torch Relay will reach Islamabad on April 16.
It will be an important event in the history of Pakistan, caretaker Prime Minister Mohammadmian Soomro said while talking to Jiang Xiaoyu, Executive Deputy President (Vice Minister) of the Beijing Organizing Committee, says an official statement.
The prime minister extended complete support from the government of Pakistan to make the event smooth, secure and safe as per the Olympic Charter.
While expressing gratitude to the Chinese government for their support in holding this event in Pakistan, the prime minister said that it is a great honour for the government and the people of Pakistan that Islamabad has been chosen as one of the venues for Beijing Olympic Torch Relay.
Soomro said that the government is fully committed to holding the event and would mobilize all resources to ensure safety and security in order to make the event successful.
He paid tributes to the leadership and the people of China for their unqualified support to Pakistan and said that China is our strategic partner and all weather, time tested friend and both countries always stood by each other at time of need.
These close relations, he said, are strongly supplemented and supported by the people of both the countries. He assured the delegation that Pakistan will continue to support the cause of Olympic Solidarity and Olympic Movement.
Jiang Xiaoyu while extending greeting from the Chinese Premier and the Chairman of CCPC said that the delegation is fully satisfied over the arrangements proposed by the government of Pakistan for smooth holding of the event. He said that this event would further cement the existing relations and bring the two countries even closer.
