Bhubaneswar : Orissa’s main opposition Congress Saturday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, alleging the state government’s “failure” in preventing a Maoist attack in Nayagarh district that killed 14 policemen and a civilian.
“The government led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has failed to protect the lives of people,” former chief minister and Leader of Opposition in the assembly J.B. Patnaik said here.
“The Maoist attack took place due to intelligence failure and this comes under home department, which is held by the chief minister himself. He has no right to remain in power and should resign,” Patnaik said.
“The government which cannot protect the lives of people has no right to remain in power,” senior Congress leader and deputy leader of opposition Narasingha Mishra said.
On Friday night, about 500 Maoists, nearly 30 percent of them young girls, attacked at least three police stations, two police posts, a police training centre and looted an armoury in the Nayagarh district located some 60 km from here.
