Tamil Nadu workers trapped in Libya to return

Chennai : Twenty-six men from Tamil Nadu, trapped in Libya after being duped by an agent, would be sent back, the external affairs ministry has reportedly informed Congress parliamentarian Sudarsana Natchiappan.

Sources at the parliament member’s office told the media here that the ministry has informed Natchiappan, who represents Sivaganga constituency, that action has been initiated to repatriate the workers.

The Indians worked for a private company, which allegedly paid them low wages and locked them up when they complained.

One of the men managed to contact his family in Tamil Nadu and they approached the MP and the authorities for relief.

The Libyan company has now agreed to pay the workers five months’ wages and provide them airfare to return home.
