By KUNA

Gaza : While Israeli radio announced the possibility of a meeting between its Premier Ehud Olmert and Palestinian National Authority (PNA) President Mahmoud Abbas later on this week, the Israeli official vowed to escalate the current military action against Gaza.

During a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Olmert said Israel’s counter action against the launching of Palestinian missiles involved executing military operations, imposing stricter sanctions, implementing an anti missile system and re-enforcing Israeli areas around Gaza.

Later on today, a meeting between relevant ministers and officials will be held later on today to examine enforcing those areas, such as Sderot town, he said.

Regarding the Abbas-Olmert meeting, the radio said it was aimed at following up the discussion of final settlement issues.

A few days ago, Abbas said talks were slow and there was no chance to speak about progress in the peace progress.

Olmert had claimed that Palestinians had agreed to postpone talks regarding Jerusalem, but Palestinian officials strongly denied such a thing.

In addition, the radio said Jerusalem will host today a meeting of Israel’s new negotiations team headed by Brigadier-General Udi Dekel with the participation of senior officials from defense, interior, finance justice, infrastructure and environment protection ministries.

The meeting is aimed at forming work-teams to handle talks with Palestinians, added the radio.
