Riyadh : The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) condemned, Sunday, the re-printing of offensive cartoons depicting Prophet Mohammad by 17 newspapers in Denmark.
An OIC statement said this re-print is proof of intentional and persistent offense to Islam and the Prophet and an act which could only aggravate sentiments of hatred and animosity, whereas Islam is a religion of co-existence and interaction among world peoples within a framework of mutual respect.
OIC Secretary General Akmaluddin Ihsan Oglu demanded the concerned authorities take measures to stop this abuse and urged Muslim communities and bodies in Denmark to show self-restraint and refrain from violent reaction and opt for dialogue instead.
Papers in Denmark first published the offensive cartoons in 2006, causing uproar throughout the Muslim world and Muslim communities, and the frequent re-prints further aggravate tensions caused by such publication.
