Kuwait : The educational institution, like all other institutions of the civil society, is affected by the passage of time and requires reform and development in order to keep up with requirements of the recipient, said Muneera Al-Ateeqi, a kindergarten supervisor, on Monday.
Speaking at a session on “Educational Institutions: Elementary Stage” at the National Education Development Conference, she said the team tasked with studying means to develop the elementary stage conducted a poll of 600 teachers from which three main topics were found to be of importance.
These three topics were the need to focus on the teacher as a main axis of the educational process, and the student as the target of this process, as well as the need for developing tools for evaluating and assessing skills acquired by the student.
Moreover, she said the team sought to gain insight on Gulf and international experiences in this area in order to determine what areas in the elementary education needed to be improved.
The team called for granting school administrations more authority to make necessary decisions within the state education strategy for 2005-2025, emphasizing vocational and self training for teachers, making text books available in electronic form, placing emphasis on teachers, and boosting their classroom skills, among other things.
