Islamabad : Election was postponed in 12 constituencies, including four for National Assembly and eight for provincial assemblies, due to various reasons. For National Assembly seats, election was not held in NA-207 Larkana-Shikarpur-cum-Kamber Shahdatkot due to murder of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto on December 27, while polls on NA-119 Lahore-II were terminated due to death of PML’s Tariq Banday on February 5.
Due to law and order situation election was postponed in NA-42 Tribal Area-VII and NA-37 Tribal Area-II. For Punjab assembly, polls were postponed in PP-99 Gujranwala-IX due to death of PPPP’s Nasir Mehmood Sindhu, in PP-70 Faisalabad-XX due to death of Pakistan Gharib Party’s Ch Asghar Ali Randhawa and in PP-141 Lahore-V after PML’s Tariq Banday’s demise.
The death of independent candidate Arshad Ali Rashid resulted in postponement of election in PP-171 Nankana Sahib-II, while election proceedings were terminated in PP-145 Lahore-XVII due to demise of PML(N)’s Ch Asif Ashraf.
For NWFP assembly, elections were not held in PF-59 Batagram-I due to death of JUI(F)’s Haji Muhammad Ayaz Khan, in PF-81 Swat-II after the murder of PML’s Mian Gul Asfand Yar Ameerzaib and in PF-92 Upper Dir-II due to death of independent candidate Fareed Khan.
