New Delhi : As the temperatures in the national capital region and most parts of the northern plains rose and remained significantly above normal, the Met Office Tuesday forecast warms days and nights ahead, hinting the winter is almost over.

The capital – and most of the country’s north – has been reeling under a severe cold wave for over a month now, with the season’s lowest recorded at 1.9 degrees Celsius Jan 2, and the lowest temperature this month at 2.9 degrees Feb 2.

The day temperature in the national capital rose to near 26 degrees Celsius Tuesday, as it did in most other places across the northern plains.

The minimum temperature in Delhi was 9.3 degrees, normal for this time of the year.

The lowest temperature in the plains was 5 degrees Celsius, recorded at Adampur in Punjab.

The Met Office has forecast mainly dry weather in most of the country, expect for some rains in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal.

The following are the maximum and minimum temperatures and rainfall in major cities for the 24 hours till Tuesday morning, with figures in brackets denoting deviations from the average.
