Mumbai : India Cements-owned Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Chronicle Hyderabad overshot the maximum $5 million cap at the players’ auction for the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) here Wednesday.
As per the rules, each team was allowed to spend a minimum of $3.3 million and a maximum of $5 million each. Although Chennai and Hyderabad spent $5.9 million and $5.8 million respectively, it was not clear as to how the excess expenditure would be adjusted, or if any penalty would be imposed on them.
