Woman booked for killing teenage sons

Nagpur : A middle-aged woman in Maharashtra’s Nagpur town has been booked for allegedly poisoning to death her two teenage sons as she considered them a hindrance in her love affair, the police said Wednesday.

Geeta Wadekar, 36, has confessed to the crime after professing innocence initially and her friend Sanjay Bagade, 32, has admitted to having an illicit relationship with her, the police claimed.

“Geeta first told us her sons – 16-year-old Mayur and 14-year-old Ritesh – died of food poisoning after consuming stale tea Monday morning. But on being confronted with an empty bottle of Indosulfan recovered from her home, she admitted to having mixed the insecticide with their morning tea,” Wadi police station officer D.J. Chavan told IANS.

“The two boys were perhaps unaware of their mother’s relationship with Sanjay, an auto rickshaw driver, who lived in the same locality,” he added.

“Though Geeta, whose husband died a decade ago, told us she wanted to end her life as well, the sequence of events in the case hardly bears her out – she gave the poison-laced tea to the two children before they went for jogging, rushed the elder one to fetch Sanjay when the younger one started vomiting after returning home and told us the story of stale tea hours after both of them died in the hospital,” Chavan said.

Sanjay was planning to shift to a distant locality with his wife and two children and this had disturbed Geeta, he added.
