Pakistan: PML factions secure 4.578 MLN more votes than PPP

Islamabad : Accumulative vote count for all Pakistan Muslim League (PML) factions in General Elections 2008 for National Assembly, is far ahead from the votes secured by Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP).

When counted together, the votes of Pakistan Muslim League (PML), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) show a lead of 4,387,889 votes over PPPP.

Pakistan Muslim League and other factions; Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional secured total 14,443,380 votes against PPPP’s 10,055,491 votes.

Out of the total vote count of 27,018,903 votes, for the National Assembly seats among major contestants, PML factions secured 14,443,380 votes against PPPP’s 10,055,491 votes and MQM’s 2,520,032 votes.

In this way, PML factions secured 53% of the total vote cast for the National Assembly among the major contestants, with PPPP securing 37% votes and MQM 9% votes.

Although PPPP has emerged has a major seat winning party by securing 88 National Assembly seats followed by PML-N’s 66 seats, PML’s 41 and PML-F’s four seats, yet the PML factions lead PPPP in accumulative vote count.

Calculating the situation in terms of former ruling coalition and PPPP and PML-N, these three major components of Pakistani politics bagged total 27,140,067 votes during contest on 264 National Assembly seats.

Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and its coalition partners in the previous government and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerged as the maximum vote securing parties.

According to statistics, former ruling alliance comprising Pakistan Muslim League, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and Pakistan Peoples Party-Sherpao (PPP-S) secured 40% votes of the total while expected ruling parties PPPP and PML-N got 37% and 23% votes respectively.

These statistics show that out of total vote cast former ruling coalition bagged 10,844,233 votes followed by PPPP with 10,055,491 votes and PML-N with 6,240,343 votes.

In individual vote count PPPP candidates had a win over the candidates of PML factions in ‘above 100,000 votes securing category’ with Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur getting maximum 138,310 votes to stand atop.

There are total four PPPP candidates contesting on National Assembly seats who secured more than 100,000 votes including Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur (138,310 votes) Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani (111,478 votes), Dr Azra Fazal Pacheho (108,096 votes), Ameer Shah Jamot (102737 votes) and Sher Muhammad Baloch (134,696 votes).

Among the PML faction leading candidates, are Arbab Zakaullah from PML (134074 votes), Ayaz Amir from PML-N (125,421 votes) and Ghulam Haider Samejo from PML (109,560 votes).

MQM candidates have emerged as leading in individual vote securing category with 13 of its candidates securing more than 100,000 votes each.

MQM also has the honor to bag maximum votes in any single constituency with its Sufyan Yousaf standing atop countrywide by securing 186,933 votes from National Assembly constituency NA-246 Karachi.
