New Delhi : Five children have died in the northern Indian state of Bihar after eating stale food left as offerings at a local temple, a spokesman for the state’s health authorities said on Friday.
Approximately a hundred people, predominantly children, fell ill shortly after eating the prasad, a traditional offering to the Hindu goddess of knowledge, Saraswati.
“A total of 14 children were rushed to hospital, three of them died en route, and a further two in the clinic,” the spokesman said.
The dish made of rice, sugar and sweets was left at the temple on February 11 for consumption 10 days later.
