Srinagar : One person was injured and a room in a lower courts complex where seized ammunition is kept was gutted here in an accidental explosion Friday, the police said.
A police officer said the explosion in the seized ammunition room – called the malkhana – of the lower courts complex triggered a fire Friday afternoon.
Panic gripped the entire Lal Chowk area, which is adjacent to the complex, when the explosion was heard.
“One person, identified as Muhammad Shafi, who guards the malkahana, was injured in the explosion. The fire has since been brought under control,” the police officer said.
The weapons and ammunition seized from separatist guerrillas, against whom cases are pending in the Srinagar courts, are stored in the room to be produced as evidence against the arrested guerrillas.
