Santiago : Eight people were killed and five others seriously injured when a small police airplane crashed Wednesday on a residential area here, Chilean media reported citing local authorities.
The dead are the six occupants of the plane, and a mother and her five-year-old son who were on the ground where the plane crashed.
The plane crashed in the Penalolen neighbourhood of the Chilean capital, in a municipal facility where several people were practising sports.
Penalolen Mayor Claudio Orrego confirmed eight people died.
According to eyewitnesses, the plane – a Cessna 210 Centurion – was having technical problems and was headed for the nearby Tobalaba Airfield when it came down.
