Repatriation of Sudanese Refugees Restarted

United Nations : Repatriation of Sudanese refugees from Ethiopia was restarted Tuesday after two months of interruption because of bureaucratic problems, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees reported.

A caravan transferring 605 Sudanese citizens from the camp of Bonga, most of them under 18 years of age, will reach the Sudanese state of Blue Nile Tuesday.

The UN organization said this movement is the first since December 29, and it is hopeful it leads to regular movement of repatriation.

UNHCR representatives in Ethiopia said that they want to close the camp of Bonga, still with about 5,000 refugees, and the near camp of Dimma that has 2, 600.

It is expected, they added, to also begin caravans to Sudan coming from Dimma and of other two near facilities in the proximities, the one in Sherkole and another one in Fungido.

Items such as blankets, containers, mattresses, filters of water, hygienic products for women, sheets of plastic, nets, buckets, kitchen implements and soap.

Also, the UN World Food Program and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization offer them provisions for three months, seeds and agricultural tools.
