Baghdad : A roadside bomb detonated near a bus carrying Shiite pilgrims in southeastern Baghdad on Wednesday morning, killing one and wounding two others, an Interior Ministry source said.
The attack occurred at about 80:00 a.m. (0500 GMT) when a roadside bomb struck the bus near the Maysaloon Square in the predominantly Shiite neighborhood of Baghdad al-Jadida, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The bus was heading the holy city of Karbala, some 110 km south of Baghdad, the source said.
Hundreds of thousands of Shiite Muslims from Iraq and some other Muslim countries converge in the city of Karbala, to commemorate the 40-day Arbaeen festival after the martyrdom of Imam al-Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad, who was killed in the battle of al-Taf in the city in the seventh century.
