Kozhikode : Income tax officials seized Rs.10.05 million (nearly $250,000) from a Qualis car on the Bangalore-Kozhikode national highway near here Friday.
“The money was found concealed in secret chambers made in the vehicle,” said income tax assistant director Sajay Joseph. The money is suspected to be part of ‘hawala’ transactions, which are rampant here.
Officials intercepted the vehicle on the hilly section of the highway about 50 km from here.
The officials took into custody two people, Hussain and Shameer, both natives of Koduvalli, about 17 km from here.
“They were bringing the money from Bangalore to give it to one Basheer in Koduvalli,” the official added.
