Spain´s PSOE Urges FARC to Release Betancourt

Madrid : The ruling Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) urged the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) to released former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt.

The request was made by PSOE International Relations Secretary Elena Valenciano in an official communique issued on Thursday.

The text expresses concern for Betancourt´s health, and requests FARC to release her together with the rest of the hostages.

Following a request by Venezuela´s President Hugo Chavez, FARC released yesteday former Colombian lawmakers Gloria Polanco, Orlando Beltran Cuellar, Luis Eladio Perez and Jorge Eduardo Gechem.

Last month, former candidate to Colombia´s vicepresidency Clara Rojas and ex lawmaker Consuelo González were freed.
