Crude bomb found in Hyderabad park

Hyderabad, Jan 2 (IANS) A crude bomb was found in NTR Garden near the state secretariat here Wednesday, creating panic among people.

Police said the bomb was recovered around 4 p.m. and defused by the bomb disposal squad.

Following the recovery, the police have beefed up security at public places and all vital installations in the state.

The park, abutting the NTR Ghat on the banks of Hussain Sagar Lake, attracts thousands of people every day, especially during evenings.

The park is located near the state secretariat, the seat of governance and near Lumbini Park, where a bomb blast during a laser show had killed 12 people on Aug 25 last year.

The crude bomb was recovered a day after the authorities re-opened the laser show at Lumbini Park after ensuring stability of the structure and tight security arrangements.

The near-simultaneous blasts at the Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat, a famous eatery, had claimed 44 lives in the worst terror attacks in Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier, a blast during Friday prayers at the historic Mecca Masjid on May 18, 2007 had killed nine people.
