Iran ready to expand cooperation with Iraq

Tehran : Iranian Minister of Economy Davoud Danesh-Ja’fari has expressed Iran’s readiness to expand economic cooperation with Iraq.

“Promotion of trade and economic cooperation between Iran and Iraq will lead to welfare of the two nations,” the minister said while addressing a day-long conference on opportunities and challenges of oil, gas and petrochemical industries of Iran and Iraq here Thursday.

He said that growing bilateral cooperation and awareness of economic advantages of the two countries would be beneficial for their governments.

He stated that Iran and Iraq, which possess rich oil and gas resources, can meet future demands because oil resources of the world would end within the next 70 years.

Pointing to progress made by Iran in various petrochemical fields despite the sanctions, the minister said, “Tehran is ready to transfer its technical and engineering know-how in oil, gas and petrochemical industries to Iraq.”

Danesh-Ja’fari noted that Iran achieved the technology to exploit and produce gas during recent years.

He stated that Iran has potentials to set up joint and private ventures in the sector of oil, gas and raw materials industries in Iraq.

“Bolstering economic cooperation with Iraq is on Iran’s agenda,” he said.
