Mumbai : Fourteen men who were arrested in connection with the molestation of two NRI women on New Year’s Eve were Friday granted bail within an hour of being remanded to judicial custody.
The accused were presented before Andheri metropolitan magistrate Madhav Bondre Friday morning and were sent to judicial custody till Jan 18.
However, they had all filed bail applications and when the matter came up for hearing in the post lunch session, Bondre granted them bail with a surety of Rs.10,000 each, one of the advocates for the accused Nagesh Joshi told IANS.
The police arrested the 14 men from different parts of the city late Thursday, following a public outcry over the incident in which a group of men molested the two California residents, who were originally from Valsad in south Gujarat.
The victims are reported to be students on vacation to India who had come to Mumbai for New Year’s Eve celebrations. The incident occurred near Hotel JW Marriott in the posh Juhu area of northwest Mumbai.
