AMU expels 22 students for arson

Aligarh: Violence that rocked the Aligarh Muslim University last year has lead to expulsion of 22 of its students.

Last year violence was prompted by death of a student, third such killing in six months. Killing of Mazhar Naeem prompted students to go on rampage, burning and looting of the VC lodge.

The University has revoked the suspension of two students. On the recommendation of the Discipline Committee, the Vice Chancellor has expelled seven students for five years, eight students for a three years expulsion. Five students were expelled for two years. The University has imposed a fine ranging from Rs. 1,000 to 25,000 to seven students.

The local police have claimed to solved the murder of Mazhar Naeem. Police claimed he was killed for his mobile phone.
