Gaza : At least five Palestinians were killed and more than 50 were wounded on Thursday, after the Israeli Army attacked the West Bank and Gaza, according to security sources.
One of the attacks took place in the town of Kan Yunis, in southern Gaza, where a tank opened fire against a house, killing a woman and her three children, two of whom were members of Islamic Jihad.
At least nine people, including children, were wounded in the same operation, the sources added.
A combatant of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) was killed and 30 people were wounded in another attack that destroyed three houses suspected to be shelters for militiamen, Hamas activists said.
Hamas has controlled the Gaza Strip since June 2007, when it expelled the Al Fatah forces lead by Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas, after weeks of clashes.
Parallel to the operation in the Gaza Strip, more than 70 tanks and military vehicles entered the city of Naplusa, in the West Bank, where more than 20 people, including a ten-year-old boy and four members of the Al Aqasa Martyrs Brigade, were wounded, the sources noted.
The troops raided the Rafidya Hospital and houses in the old quarters of Naplusa in search of wounded militiamen. They captured at least four alleged activists, according to security sources.
The two operations were confirmed by spokespersons for the Israeli Defense Forces, who told Israeli public radio that the actions were aimed at stopping the “terrorist threat”.
