Kerala animation firm produces BBC cartoon series

Thiruvananthapuram : Two BBC channels, CBBC and BBC One, will from this week air “Freefonix”, an animated cartoon series co-produced by Toonz Animation India Pvt Ltd, based at the Technopark here.

Other producers of the 40-episode series include Cinnamon Entertainment, Method Films, Isle of Man and BBC.

A Toonz press release issued Friday said the plot features three mismatched heroes who form a band called Freefonix in order to safeguard the most powerful force in the universe, the 13th Note, an awesome force that can bend space and minds when the perfect sound is created.

“We are proud to be part of this incredible show which has a combination of classy storytelling, jazzy music and amazing animation,” said P. Jayakumar, CEO, Toonz Animation.

With a budget of more than $20 million, Freefonix is the largest commission by BBC for an animation series.

Toonz has become a major provider of animation to top American and European producers.

The company’s client list includes the biggest names in media and entertainment including Marvel, Hallmark, Paramount, Disney, BBC and Cartoon Network.
