Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met on Sunday the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader in the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani on regional issues and bilateral relations, the official SANA news agency reported.

They also discussed “bilateral relations and the constantly-improving constructive cooperation between Syria and Iran,” SANA added.

Larijani, currently on a five-day visit here, also held talks with Vice President Farouk al-Shara and Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem during his stay.

Describing the talks as “good and excellent,” Larijani told reporters on Sunday that “their talks concentrated on the basic issues in the region.”

“Issues in the region are very sensitive and need continuous consultations between Syria and Iran which are connected by very deep friendly ties,” he said, hailing the importance of the standing and continuous cooperation between the two countries.

Larijani affirmed that viewpoints between Syria and Iran were identical in supporting and cooperating with the Iraqi government in the political, economic and security domains.

Visions were also identical on Lebanon over the necessity to achieve concordance among all sides and support any step that may contribute to reach consensus among the Lebanese, Larijani added.
