Havana : Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage received Indian Lok Sabha (lower House) Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on Monday, during the parliamentary delegation’s state visit to the Island.
At their meeting in the Council of Ministers in Havana, Chatterjee expressed appreciations for the gestures of solidarity from the Cuban people and leaders since his arrival in the capital on Sunday.
He explained that India, with about 1.2 billion inhabitants, has a 545-member Lok Sabha and a 250-member Upper House or State Council.
Also on Monday, the Indian leader met with Cuban National Assembly of the People’s Power President Ricardo Alarcon, to whom he expressed his interest in learning and exchanging on Cuban experiences.
All freedom-loving people are proud that, despite so many problems and obstacles, Cuba is making progress, moving forward and achieving breakthroughs in different fields of national life, he noted.
The Indian legislators are scheduled to visit the Latin American School of Medicine, the Center of Molecular Immunology and the Varadero tourist resort, among other places of interest.
