Kuala Lumpur : Employers at a Malaysian dance school have admitted to cruelty and abuse of their two Indian national dance teachers but will escape legal action, reports said Tuesday.
The employers, whose identities were not revealed, ran a music and dance school in the central state of Selangor, and were believed to have started abusing the two teachers since the day of their arrival from India three years ago.
S. Rajendra and M. Sangeetha, both 27, were subjected to various kinds of physical abuse resulting in several permanent scars, the New Straits Times daily reported.
The employers were also said to have slammed the two women’s heads against a wall among other abusive incidents.
Unable to tolerate the abuse any further, the two women escaped and sought help from a local welfare bureau last week.
Bureau chief T. Mohan then organised and chaired a meeting Sunday night between the employers and the dance teachers to resolve the issue.
The employers apologised and offered a sum of 5,700 ringgit ($1,676) to each woman as compensation.
“After some deliberation and consultation with Mohan, we were told to take it for all the troubles and pain we endured,” said Rajendra.
She added that they will not be taking any further action against their employers and are relieved and looking forward to going back to India Wednesday.
“All we want to do is go back to India. We don’t want revenge. We just hope this thing won’t happen to others,” Rajendra said.
