Suicide bomber injures 8 Pakistani soldiers: army

By IRNA

Islamabad : A suicide bomber on Monday struck an army check post in Pakistan’s restive Swat valley, injuring eight soldiers, the army said.

Security forces are targeted in the valley, where thousands of soldiers have launched a fresh major offensive against the militants.

The army says that more than 300 militants have been killed over the last two months.

“At 11:15 hours today, a suicide bomber in a single cabin pickup exploded himself on the gate of Technical College near Kabbal Golf Course,” the statement said.

It said that two civilians including the principal of the college were also injured seriously in the attack.

The injured soldiers were manning the check post.

Meanwhile the army said that night curfew is still imposed in Swat and curfew is only relaxed in day time.

Maulana Fazalullah is leading hundreds of militants who are fighting against the security forces.

The army last month took control of Fazalullah’s headquarters in the area and he has gone into hiding.

Fazalullah on Sunday used his FM radio station to ask the people to supporters to attack security personnel in the region.

The government has also started its own FM radio station and Fazalullah also asked the people not to listen to it.

People in Swat say that security forces bombed positions of the militants in Wanay Bridge and blocked supply routes to the militants.
