Hewitt shocked by fellow-Australian Guccione

Sydney : Big-serving left-hander Chris Guccione produced a stunner at the Sydney International tennis tournament by knocking out fellow-Australian Lleyton Hewitt here Wednesday.

Guccione pulled off two tight tie-breakers, 7-6, 7-6, at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre and he will next play Czech fourth seed Tomas Berdych.

Ranked 125th in the world, Guccione fired in 23 aces to make sure he is in the quarter-finals of this tournament for the first time.

For Hewitt, a four-times champion here, this is his worst performance in eight outings.

After a three-month lay-off at the end of last year, Hewitt was in need of match practice and would have liked at least another match or two before the the next week’s Australian Open.
