Jaipur : Local lad Amanjyot Singh was the only player to bring in a sub-par round on the second day and that helped him take the lead at the end of the second round of the LG Rambagh Golf Club Golf Championship at the Rambagh Golf Club Wednesday. He shot a one-under par 69 to be one-under par 139 for the tournament.
Saurabh Bahuguna who shot a one-over par was second at 140 while Rahul Bajaj was third at 142. Moin Malak, Simarjeet Singh and Tarun Gogale were all tied for fourth place at 143.
Wasim Khan and Karan Vasudeva shared the seventh spot at 144 while Aditya Singh and Vikram Rana at 145.
First-round leader Tarun Gogale dropped to fourth with a second round 76 after shooting 67 on first day.
Amanjyot, winner of the British Open Junior last year, is a product of the Rambagh Golf Club and was therefore comfortable on his home course.
Beginning from the 10th, the 17-year-old was cruising making pars all the way until the 15th hole. “It was frustrating as I was not able to hit it as close as I wanted, although I missed couple of putts from close,” said the youngster.
The last three holes of his round proved eventful as he first scored successive birdies on the par-4 seventh and par-5 eighth. With a driver-lob wedge approach, Amanjyot stuck the ball inches from the pin to tap in for the elusive birdie. “It was such a good feeling to score the first birdie of the round,” admitted Amanjyot who went on to make another birdie on the eighth.
However he was unfortunate on his finishing hole. After he hit his drive on the left, he got stuck in the soft part of the ground and cold not hit his approach shot to the optimum and paid the penalty as he finished with a bogey.
Saurabh began with a flourish making a birdie on the par-4 10th and played a steady game to save pars on the next eight holes of his front nine to be 1-under at the turn. On the back nine, a bogey on the par-3 fourth put him at level par. He quickly made amends on the very next hole making a birdie. With a double bogey on the seventh, he was two-over for the round until the final hole where he made a birdie to be just one-over.
With the golfers closely huddled, the next two days promise some exciting action.
