Islamabad : Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf expressed his annoyance at the US presidential hopefuls having reservations over the safety of nuclear assets in the country and said the nuclear weapons are safe, Online news agency reported Wednesday.
Musharraf met a US delegation led by Senator Joe Lieberman Wednesday and said the presidential hopefuls were expressing their views without being aware of the ground realties in Pakistan.
The nuclear assets of Pakistan are safe and under strong multi-layered, institutionalised decision-making and command and control structures, he said, adding that there is no question of the nuclear assets falling into the hands of terrorists.
No force of any other country would be allowed to hunt terrorists inside Pakistan, Musharraf said during the meeting, which was also attended by US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne. W. Peterson.
The security forces of Pakistan are fully capable to wage war against scourge of terrorism and extremism and the Pakistan army has dismantled the network of Al Qaeda and pushed them into hiding in the mountainous areas, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Senator Lieberman lauded the leadership qualities of Musharraf and said the US wanted long-term and sustainable relationship with Pakistan.
The statements issued by the US presidential hopefuls were not part of government polices and the whole world, including the US, admired the role of Pakistan in war against terrorism, Lieberman added.
