Pune : A truck laden with onions ran over three children while attempting to overtake another truck near Maharashtra’s biggest wholesale onion market in Niphad district, police officials said.
The children, aged between 12 and 13, were killed on the spot. Two of them were on their way to school while one was sitting in a corner near a bonfire in Pimpalgaon Baswanti village, about 200 km from Pune.
Prakash Patil, collector of Niphad district, told IANS: “We have requested the state government to compensate the parents of the children under the Rajiv Gandhi Insurance Scheme and the chief minister’s fund.”
